I recently read, Computers Proliferating in Classroom, and article from the New York Times. The article talks about how computers are being used to enhance instruction in new ways. Before, emphasis was on how to use a computer and all of it’s functions. This article talks about the changes now and how computers are being used to learn new things. There are now 2.25 million computers in the elementary and high schools, about one for every 20 students. An average high school had 34 computers while an average elementary school had 17.
I decided to post in reference to this article since I believe it brings up a good point. If there are so many computers in elementary schools, the number of ways to learn from the computer should be just as high. They are included in schools because there is so much to learn from them and teachers really need to start using them as an instructional tool. Computers need to be used for more than just an aid classes in business education, math, English, science and industrial arts.
